PDP emphasises on result-oriented talks, reconciliation

Updated: Sep 04, 2016 23:58 IST

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], Sept 4 (ANI): Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representative at the all-party delegation meeting Sartaj Madani on Sunday said Kashmir is a political issue for the last 60 years and that is why they emphasised on result-oriented talks and reconciliation, which is the founding principle of their party.

Brushing aside allegations levelled by former chief minister and National Conference chief Omar Abdullah that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the PDP lacked coordination and were unable to reach a consensus on the Kashmir issue, Madani said despite political differences, the coalition is based on the "agenda of alliance".

"When Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had forged an alliance with the BJP, he said 'this is an effort to combine North and South poles'. There are some differences, and to address that we have an agenda of alliance, where we have mentioned about dialogue process with Pakistan and Hurriyat. Mufti Sayeed made effort to make this party a bridge between the people of Jammu and Kashmir, India and Pakistan for talks to resolve the Kashmir issue. It is not as if we don't have any political differences, we both have agendas based on that we made this alliance," he told reporters after meeting the all party delegation.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs, in a statement, said the all-party delegation led by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on the first day of its visit here met about 200 members in about 30 delegations from various sections of society and listened to their point of view to reach at a common solution to the current scenario in the state.

Before leaving for Srinagar, Singh had said, "We intend to talk to individuals and groups, who want peace and normalcy in the Kashmir Valley."

The delegation is on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir.

The Home Minister chaired the meeting of the all-party delegation that was also attended by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.

During the meeting, a detailed presentation was given by the State Government highlighting various issues related to the current scenario in Jammu and Kashmir and it was emphasised that a clear roadmap needs to be drawn with a focus on the way forward, said a press statement issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

On Monday, the delegation will visit Jammu after meeting different civil society delegations in Srinagar in the morning. (ANI)
