Lucknow, July 19 (ANI
): Expressing concern over contaminated ground water in Uttar Pradesh, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Tuesday directed the state's Chief Secretary to personally chair a committee on the issue of contamination of ground water in six western districts.
NGT's principal bench headed by Justice Swatanter Kumar observed that the Uttar Pradesh Government and its authorities have failed to provide potable drinking water to the villagers because of which poor and innocent children are compelled to drink contaminated ground water.
It is important to note that the NGT
was hearing a petition filed by Retired Senior Scientist Dr C.V. Singh, who claims that farmers and poor villagers are facing health hazards due to drinking highly contaminated ground water. (ANI
