): The Central Bureau of Investigation
(CBI) has filed a charge-sheet against M/s Sastra Enterprises Ltd and its director Venkatachari Sampath
in the court of CBI's Special Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on the allegations of cheating investors to the tune of over Rs. 3.30 crores.
According to CBI sources, Sampath has been booked under sections 120-B, 420, 409 of the Indian Penal (IPC) and various sections of the Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act, 1978; while M/s. Sastra Enterprises Limited under sections 120-B, 420 of the IPC and the Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act.
In pursuant to a Supreme Court order on may 9, a case was registered against V. Sampath, Managing Director, M/s Sastra Enterprises Ltd
. and others related to one of the chit-fund cases of Orissa under sections 120B/420/468/471 of the IPC and sections 4 and 5 of the Prize Chits & Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act, 1978, said CBI sources.
Sampath, who was arrested on march 22, is in judicial custody, while further investigation under section 173 (8) of the CrPC is continuing, said CBI sources.
The findings are based on the investigation done by the CBI and evidence collected by it, tey said, adding that under the Indian law, the accused are presumed to be innocent till their guilt is finally established after a fair trial. (ANI
