New Delhi [India], Oct. 22 (ANI
): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya
on Saturday met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh
to apprise him about the stone pelting incident on Babul Supriyo allegedly by Trinamool Congress
(TMC) workers and demanded action against the culprits involved.
Supriyo was attacked by a mob on Wednesday when he was on his way to a police station to protest against the arrest of some BJP workers.
"We met the Home Minister to apprise him about the stone pelting incident where Babul Supriyo
was attacked by a mob. We told him that law and order situation in Bengal is worsening," Vijayavargiya told ANI
Vijayvargiya pointed out that the state has been witnessing a spike in communal tensions, especially after Muharram. He said Hindu's houses were torched in several parts of Bengal.
"When BJP workers raised their voice and protested against this, TMC workers sieged his car and pelted stones at him. His car was vandalized. They attacked him in front of police officials. Hence we asked the Home Minister to initiate a probe in the matter to which he agreed," he added.
On his official Twitter account, Supriyo accused TMC Minister Malay Ghatak for scheming the attack.
A video footage of the incident surfaced which showed a violent mob attacking Supriyo's convoy. During the scuffle, one of the BJP party workers was also thrashed and his clothes ripped off.
