Rahul Gandhi leaves no stone unturned to be in 'limelight': BJP

Updated: Nov 12, 2016 10:09 IST

New Delhi [India], Nov. 12 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday described Rahul Gandhi's visit to SBI's Parliament House branch for demonetization of currency notes with new ones, as a ' publicity stunt' saying that the Congress vice president leaves no stone unturned to be in the limelight.

BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain told ANI that Gandhi's love to be in the news is fierce for which he can also stand in long queues in front of ATMs.

"Rahul Gandhi does not want to leave any stone unturned to be in limelight and get himself clicked. People will not begin to start favouring him or even vote for him simply because he stands in queues," he said.

"People are appreciating Prime Minister Narendra Modi's fight against black-money. Today, in the campaign against black-money, everybody should stand together" Hussain added.

Echoing similar sentiments, another BJP leader Meenakshi Lekhi said after Prime Minister Modi's masterstroke of demonetising Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, thousands of people have queued up outside ATMs and banks, irrespective of their social status.

"I am very happy that a person like Rahul Gandhi was also standing in queue for his expenses, as there is no king or queen in a democracy. I was also standing in queue. With this blow everybody will be treated equally. Even if you are some prince of Gandhi family, you have to stand in a queue," Lekhi said.

On Friday, continuing his barbs against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for running a "suit-boot ki sarkar", Gandhi took an opportunity to pull-up the ruling dispensation over the currency ban issue and said that not a single "suit-boot" person is standing in queues and only 'aam aadmi' (normal people) have been languishing to exchange the currency notes.

Rahul, who arrived in Parliament Street to stand in-line with the people, waited for his turn to withdraw money from the bank.

He also accused the Prime Minister of being apathetic to the people's woes who have been standing in serpentine queues since morning.

"I am here to stand with them, my people are suffering. Are you seeing any "suit-boot" person standing in line, these are just ordinary people, but Prime Minister Modi remains indifferent to the plight of people," Rahul told reporters. (ANI)
