New Delhi [India], Sept.26 (ANI): United States Ambassador to India Richard Verma on Monday welcomed India's decision to ratify the Paris Climate Change agreement on October 2.

In a tweet, Verma congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership to ratify the agreement.

The Prime Minister mande this announcement while addressing the Bharatiya Janata Party's National Council meet in Kozhikode,Kerala, on Sunday.

Modi said he had chosen the date, which is next Sunday, as Mahatma Gandhi's life was an example of minimum carbon footprint. The pact will come into force after it is ratified by at least 55 countries that account for 55 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions. (ANI with inputs)
