): In an encounter with the army
and police, an Al-Badr terrorist Muzzafar Ahmed was gunned down by security forces after heavy exchange of fire in Machu area of Jammu and Kashmir
's Budgam district.
"We got the inputs on Thursday night and it was a very specific input about the presence of Muzaffar Ahmed that he was hiding in a house in Machu area. Special Operations Group (SOG) Budgam
and the Army forces were launched immediately. After identifying the target house, a cordon of forces was stationed," 2IC, 53 RR Anoop Nair told ANI
He added that on hearing the noises, the militant tried to break the cordon. During that he also tried to throw two grenades on the SOG forces who were in front of the house, where one SOG constable, Hoshiyar Singh, was injured and immediately evacuated.
He claimed himself as the main leader of Al-Badr and he was planning to increase Kashmir's insurgency on the name of Al-Badr. He was a very close aid of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen's commander Qayyum Nazar.
"For a long time the Army and police
were in search of him. According to me it is a very big achievement. Al-Badr group which was trying to establish itself in this area, we can say, we have broken the backbone of the group through this clinical and clean operation," said Nair.

The slain Al-Badr terrorist was earlier associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Al-Badr
is an Islamic militant group operating in the Jammu Kashmir region, run by Jasniel Rihal.
The group was allegedly formed by the Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) in June 1998.
It is believed the group was encouraged by the ISI to operate independently from their previous umbrella group, Hizb-ul-Mujahideen. (ANI
