Updated: Oct 12, 2016 14:26 IST

Tokyo/Jakarta, Oct.12 (ANI): "Two Yamahas, One Passion" was the theme of a joint event organized by Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. and Yamaha Corporation in Tokyo.

The visitors experienced both musical instruments and moving vehicles manufactured by both companies.

Several design concept models and products were exhibited.

This year's concept is "Rejoice."

The "&Y" project, which features the world premiere of the "&Y02" Auditory Movement Experience Device also the second creation of the project, develops products embodying Yamaha's unique style shared by the two companies through delving into the possibilities of fusing musical instruments and audio equipment with motorcycles and other mobility designs.

Multiple players can change music and manipulate the sound field through movements, like controlling mobility devices.

Comprised of loops which seem to continue indefinitely, creates a unique audio experience.

An electric scooter designed based on the RUN-WAY concept was also exhibited.

Akihiro 'Dezi' Nagaya, Executive Officer, Chief General Manager of Design Center, Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd., said, "I think Yamaha is a brand that keeps on creating moving emotions by making moving vehicles and music instruments. Moving forward is a shared value between the two companies."

Manabu Kawada, Senior General Manager of Design Laboratory, Yamaha Corporation, "While moving vehicles are for riding, music can be thought about in the same way. In music, it's important to ride on the rhythm. I think it's essential to realize what time we are living in, how to be the driving power, and to create a new era."

Since 2013, a new curriculum has been taken into action in Indonesia.

With the recommendation of using technology in education, the study method has been shifted from simply memorizing everything to active learning that focuses on enhancing students' problem solving abilities.

Now including the usage of scientific calculators, Casio continues to support people with ICT technology.

Professor Widodo, Mathematics Professor, University of Gadjah Mada, Indonesia, "In Casio program, it would facilitate the use of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) specifically through the scientific calculator in mathematics education. However, it is not only for calculation but also how to use it for exploration. Exploration in Mathematics means a series of activities about looking and finding solution in mathematics."

Farras Hibban Faddilah, a Mathematics Olympiad Winner, said, "In Mathematics question, we are asked to find out in how many ways can we arrange the letters of a word. Firstly, we have to train our logic thinking so that we could understand how to solve it. Then for calculation itself, in my opinion, it is quite complicated because the numbers are quite big. Therefore, scientific calculator really helps me a lot to solve the question and find out the answer."

On the other hand, there was a happening that indicates the merits of integrating the scientific electronic calculator into mathematic education.

In Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) study, in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Vietnam is numbered 17th and in the highest position among all 65 participating countries.

Although it's not a complete cause and effect relationship, in Vietnam, scientific calculators were adopted about 20 years ago, and it has been allowed to be used in tests since 2003.

Starting from 1995, Casio has been promoting the use of scientific calculators in Vietnam.

In this event, leaving the detailed calculations to calculators, the importance of using technologies in mathematics education in Indonesia, cultivating active thinking abilities to students was further emphasized.

Starting with role-playing demonstrations, talk shows conducted by the specialists in education, students who won the Mathematical Olympiad, and the artists who like mathematics, the press was impressed with the variety of content on the usage of scientific calculators that nurtures mathematical thinking.

Yasuhiro Ito, General Manager of Overseas Calculator Sales, CASIO COMPUTER CO., LTD., said, "We would like to show that function (mathematics) is interesting. With Casio, we would like to actively work on organizing lectures and workshops for promoting the use of scientific calculators."

In order to support mathematics education around the globe, starting with labeling in Indonesian, Casio is developing and expanding scientific calculators with multi-language capabilities. (ANI)
