Taliban executes 19-year-old girl in Afghanistan
Kabul, Aug. 2 (ANI): Taliban militants publicly executed a 19-year-old girl in northern Sar-e-Pul province on charges of abandoning her family over a domestic issue.

According to local officials, the girl identified as Azada, was first tried in a desert court and was then shot dead by her brother and Taliban militants, reports the Khaama Press.

Provincial governor's spokesman Zabiulllah Amani said the incident took place on Monday in Kohistanat district.

He said the girl had taken shelter in a safe house after she left her home around two months ago but was brought back home by her brother after he promised to ensure her safety.

Such public executions are not new to the Taliban.

Earlier a 22-year-old woman was shot dead by her relatives on charges of having relations with a stranger over the telephone.

The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) in its report released late in November last year said "statistic of violence against women, obtained from the registered cases of violence against women during the first six months in 1394 exceeds 2579 cases." (ANI)
