Johannesburg [South Africa], Sept.6 (ANI): World number five Rory McIlroy ended his 16-month long title drought by notching up a two-stroke victory over England's Paul Casey in the Deutsche Bank Championship in Norton, Massachusetts.

The Northern Ireland star posted a superb six-under-par 65 in the final round to finish the championship with a cumulative score of 269 at TPC Boston, Sport24 reported.

McIlroy, whose last win came at the Wells Fargo Championship in May 2015, shot seven birdies and one bogey to seal his 12th PGA Tour victory.

US PGA champion Jimmy Walker finished three adrift of McIlroy after shooting a 70 in the fourth round, while world number one Jason Day ended with a closing 67 in a six-way tie for 15th at eight under.

The victory will see McIlroy move up to third in the next set of world rankings.(ANI)
