London, July 8 (ANI
): Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp
has signed a new contract extension that will keep him with the Premier League
club until at least 2022.
The announcement came exactly nine months after the German succeeded Brendan Rodgers
as manager of the Merseyside club.
Liverpool's parent company, Fenway Sports Group, was so impressed with Klopp's performance in his very first stint of the contract that they approached him for an extension. He was initially contracted till 2018, with an option of an extra year.
Klopp's trusted assistants namely, Zeljko Buvac and Peter Krawietz, have also received their contract extension, the Guardian reported.
Jubilant with the deal, the 49-year-old manager said that he felt honoured to work with the team for next six years.
Klopp, however, conceded that with great commitment comes great responsibility and, therefore, he is looking forward to put player and team development at the heart of his every major decision.
Klopp is currently one of the highest-paid managers in the world of football, with only Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger earning higher than him.
Klopp has led Liverpool
to 23 victories in 52 games since joining the club in October last year. (ANI
