): Swedish golfer Henrik Stenson has romped back into the world's top five after clinching his maiden major title at the British Open.
The 40-year-old edged past American competitor Phil Mickelson by three shots to win his first major trophy. He also became the first Scandinavian man to win a major in the 145th British Open
at Royal Troon on Sunday.
Stenson , who had also surpassed former world number one Tiger Woods' Open record for the lowest score by finishing 20-under par with a final-day 63, jumped above American Bubba Watson to the fifth spot in the latest rankings.
Meanwhile, Phil Mickelson
climbed up to the 13th spot, his highest ranking since September 2014, despite not claiming a single victory since his Open triumph in 2013, Sport24 reported.
Jason Day continues to maintain his lead over Dustin Johnson as world number one after both of them failed to compete at Royal Troon.
Spaniard Sergio Garcia, on the other hand, has also gained in rankings. He has moved back into the world's top 10 for the first time in over a year.
