London [UK], Nov. 2 (ANI): Manchester City staged a stunning comeback as they defeated Barcelona 3-1 in the crucial encounter of the ongoing Champions League at the Etihad Stadium.

The Pep Guardiola's side overcame Barcelona after two goals from IllKay Gundogan and Kevin de Bruyne's free kick gave them an enthralling win.

Guardiola had earlier insisted that his side would have to play 'almost perfectly' to beat to avoid yet another loss against Barcelona and bring a great risk to their chances of qualifying for the Champions League knockout stages, and so did they, reported the Guardian.

Star striker Lionel Messi out forward his side in the 21st minute of the game, scoring his 90th Champions League goal.

However, towards the end of the first half, Gundogan scored the equaliser in the 39th minute.

Guardiola's side, which lost the previous game against Barcelona 0-4, then took the lead in the second half with De Bruyne striking a fabulous goal with a free-kick in the 51st minute.

Gundogan then stretched the lead to 3-1 with his goal in the 74th minute and ensured there were no hiccups as City registered their first win against Barcelona in its last six attempts.

City will reach the knockout phase of the Champions League if they defeat Borussia Monchengladbach on November 23. (ANI)
