Voges concussed after sickening blow to head in domestic match

Updated: Nov 17, 2016 15:25 IST

Melbourne [Australia], Nov. 17 (ANI): Australian Test batsman Adam Voges was rushed off the field after he suffered concussion while batting in Western Australia's Sheffield Shield clash against Tasmania at the WACA Ground in Perth on Thursday.

The incident took place shortly before the lunch on Day One of the match when Voges was struck at the back of the helmet while attempting to evade a Cam Stevenson bouncer.

The sickening impact from the ball saw Voges sink drop to his arms and knees, before being treated on the ground and then assisted off the field by two team trainers.

Following the incident, Voges has been ruled out of the rest of the match.

Confirming the news, the Western Australian Cricket Association ( WACA) wrote on Twitter, "Voges has been diagnosed with concussion. He is ok, naturally a bit groggy. Being monitored by medicos. Ruled out of rest of game."

It was the second serious concussion Voges has suffered this year. The first came in May when the 37-year-old was struck in the back of the head in bizarre fashion while captaining English County side Middlesex,news.com.au reported.

At that time, Voges was hit by his own teammate after a boundary had been scored. Ollie Rayner was throwing the ball back when it was sailed over the wicketkeeper's head and struck Voges.

Voges was vying to book his place back in the national Test squad for the upcoming day-night match against South Africa, beginning at the Adelaide Oval on November 24. (ANI)
