Soon, a pill that fulfils every couch potato's 'fit' dream
Aug 10, 11:41 am
London, August 10 (ANI): Researchers might soon be able to create a pill that tricks the body into thinking it is exercising - without even moving a muscle.Experts have found that manipulating hormone-producing cells in the brain can control blood sugar levels. For the study, the researchers studied the hormone glucagon, which raises blood sugar levels to fuel activity. They also discovered that it works in an opposite way to insulin, which reduces blood sugar, the Daily Express reported.American professor Erik Johnson
and his team at Wake Forest University in North Carolina believe that creating a drug that turns on the enzyme can stimulate
glucagons and could make the body believe that it is exercising."Manipulation of this molecule may lead to getting the benefits of exercise without exercising," Prof Johnson said. The scientists also claimed that their discovery also has potential for diabetes treatments as well as developing fat-busting weight-loss drugs. The study has been published in the journal Genetics. (ANI)
