Washington, July 7 (ANI): A woman in Arizona is facing child abuse charges after she admitted pouring beer in her 2-year-old kid's sippy cup.

Valerie Marie Topete was arrested this week after admitting her deed to police.

She allegedly told authorities that the child had "kept reaching" for her pitcher of beer so she poured some into his cup. The child was not injured.

Nonetheless, the 36-year-old now faces child abuse charges.

According to Phoenix Police Department , authorities were called to a pizza restaurant in Phoenix on Tuesday night after witnesses reported seeing Topete pour beer into her son's sippy cup.

Witnesses said that the child drank from the cup and was also left alone at the table with his sippy cup.

"Officers interviewed the suspect who made admissions to pouring the beer in the cup because the child 'kept reaching' for the beer pitcher," L A Times quoted Phoenix police as saying in a statement.

"The mother initially told officers the child did not drink from the cup, but later indicated the child may have drank from some of the contents," the statement read.

The child was transported to a local hospital as a precaution, and later was released into his father's care. (ANI)
