Women can cut 8 years off age just wearing well tailored clothesJul 13, 1:58 pm
However, choosing the wrong outfit can also add up to seven years.
And it seems that the wealthiest celebrities, with money to buy any designer brand they desire, can look prematurely old by making the wrong choices.
Even the ‘ Twilight’ star Kristen Stewart was accused of looking older than her years earlier this summer.
The 22-year-old actress had turned up for a US chat show slot wearing a dowdy mid-length grey dress that would have better suited a court appearance.
In contrast, actress Dame Helen Mirren, 66, is the envy of millions for still managing to look sexy in her sixties.
A photograph of her wearing a red bikini while on holiday in 2008 showed her looking at least 30 years younger.
In their battle to stay looking youthful, British women are increasingly willing to take the help of plastic surgeons.
Recent research showed that they spent an amazing 25.3million pounds on face and neck lifts last year.
But now fashion experts insist that women can avoid going under the knife by simply dressing in the right clothes.
Researchers from online retailer isme.com made the claims after conducting a visual test.
In the survey, they asked 2,400 people in Britain to guess the age of a 55-year-old woman.
Participants were shown 12 pictures of the size 12 model wearing different outfits – six were fitted correctly, the other six were worn loose.
In each photograph, the lighting was the same and the model’s hair, make-up and posture were identical.
But the majority of those taking part – 74 percent – believed the model was much younger in the fitted clothes.
“Older women are experiencing increasing age-hysteria from companies selling expensive beauty treatments and invasive procedures that cost a fortune,” the Daily Express quoted fashion commentator Caryn Franklin as saying.
“This research can reassure every woman that the best and most effective way to shed years and shine is to dress well. Clothes are a very powerful beauty aid,” she said.
Jon Owen, brand director for isme.com further said that choosing the right dress was also a cheaper option for women trying to look young.
“It’s astounding the dramatic affect a well-cut jacket or nicely tailored dress can have for one per cent of the price and none of the risk of surgery,” Owen added. (ANI)
