94pc Brit mums spend more on their tot's wardrobe than their own
Jul 31, 2:26 pm
London, July 31 (ANI):
Mothers are putting their children first in the fashion stakes, with 94 per cent spending more on their child's wardrobe than their own, it has been revealed. According to a new survey by Lakeside Shopping Centre, a third of mothers would spend 100 pounds on one item of clothing for their child, knowing that they will soon grow out of it. In contrast, they would only spend a measly total of 200 pounds per year on clothes for themselves. After getting voting the most stylish celebrity child, it was also found that 15 per cent of mothers look to imitate the way Victoria Beckham styles Harper. As a result, it seems that some mothers are neglecting their own wardrobes with almost half (46 per cent) of mums feeling guilty about spending money on clothes for themselves. The survey of 1,000 women aged between 18 and 55 also found that 47 per cent of mums set aside the time to shop for their child once a week or more in an attempt to make sure their children are following the latest fashion trends.Over a third (34 per cent) of mums were found to spend between 200-400 pounds on their child per year, with a quarter (25 per cent) spending between 400-600 pounds. "The market for trendy designer clothes for children has grown rapidly over the last decade, with more choice available now than ever before," the Daily Mail quoted Paul Lancaster, General Manager of Lakeside Shopping Centre, as saying."This has certainly been boosted by celebrity culture with many mothers inspired by the likes of Katie Holmes and Victoria Beckham when it comes to kitting out the kids," he added.
