Brits lose 17k pounds over a lifetime by being lazy

London, August 2 (ANI): Laziness makes Britons lose an average of 17,000 pounds during their lifetime as they are not bothered to shop around or do simple tasks for themselves, a new study has revealed.

People throw away money by being too idle to get refunds on unwanted goods, or to take advantage of the cheap deals such as fare discounts.

They even fail to cancel direct debit payments.

They ramp up their electricity bills by tumble-drying clothes instead of hanging them on the washing line, and by leaving their electronic appliances on standby.

Although using a bucket and sponge is about 68 pounds a year cheaper than going to the carwash, most of the people cannot make the effort to clean their own vehicles.

For the same reason, they pay out an average of 72 pounds annually to the window cleaners.

The study of 2,000 adults found that one in 10 people go for the first deal that they come across - even when buying major items like a car or taking out a mortgage - because they are not bothered to shop around.

Ten percent people can't stir themselves to cancel their unused gym membership, and many parents pay for their children's school dinners simply because it's a hassle to make a packed lunch for them.

Lending money also leave people out of pocket, with 36 percent of people never bothering to chase up debts.

On an average people lend 254 pounds to friends or family which they are too lazy to pursue.

"When making big purchases, or with mortgages or loans, it's important to look for the best deal," the Daily Express quoted Simon Healy, for the study by UK bank Aldermore, as saying.

"I'm staggered that one in 10 plumped for the first deal they came across. Lots of savings can be made from very simple changes," Healy said. (ANI)
