China and India sign agreement on consultation on border issue

New Delhi, Jan 17 (ANI): The 15th round of talks between the Special Representatives (SRs) of India and China, National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon and Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo, took place in New Delhi on Monday and Tuesday.

During this round, the two sides continued their discussions on a framework for a resolution of Boundary Question. The Special Representatives agreed that they would prepare a joint agreed record for their Governments on the progress made so far in the Special Representatives talks on the Boundary Question.

Following the talks, an agreement on the Establishment of a Working Mechanism on Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs was signed in the presence of the two Special Representatives.

The Special Representatives also discussed other bilateral, regional and global issues. The discussions were wide ranging, productive, forward-looking and marked by a commonality of views on many issues.

Making a positive appraisal of the current state of bilateral relations, the Special Representatives noted the importance of regular high-level exchanges and strengthened cooperation across different areas between the two countries.

The Special Representatives agreed that there was scope for greater coordination on regional and global issues. They agreed that the next round of Special Representative talks will be held in China.

The Chinese State Councilor, Dai Bingguo, called on Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh here on Tuesday. (ANI)
