Delhi Govt. Employees Health Scheme for former legislators, judges to be liberalised

New Delhi, Jan.23 (ANI): The Delhi Cabinet on Monday today decided to liberalize the Delhi Government Employees Health Scheme for former MLAs, former Metropolitan Councilors, retired judges of High Court of Delhi, IAS officers and DANICS officers. The decision was taken in a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. Briefing the media after the cabinet meeting, Dikshit said that the Delhi Government Employees Health Scheme (DGEHS) was introduced in 1997 for providing medical facilities to Delhi Government Employees, pensioners and their families on the lines of Central Government Health Scheme, and had been modified several times to bring sitting MLAs as well as Ex-MLAs of Delhi Legislative Assembly under the ambit of the scheme and extension of DGEHS facilities in NCR/outside Delhi to them. In order to make the scheme more realistic and extend benefits under different circumstances, the cabinet has decided to modify the scheme further to allow dependent family members of ministers of the Delhi Government and sitting as well as ex-MLAs treatment on cashless basis in the empanelled private hospitals/diagnostic centres. Further it has also been decided to treat former Metropolitan Councilors of Delhi and their dependent family members at par as ex-MLAs in respect of the scheme. All sitting as well as retired High Court of Delhi judges will be allowed treatment for self and dependent family members in empanelled private hospitals/diagnostic centres. The cabinet has also decided to extend the facility of direct treatment for self and their family members and family members of all retired heads of the departments/heads of the autonomous bodies under the Government from private recognised hospitals as during service of these officers.Dikshit further stated that the IAS officers and DANIC officers posted out of Delhi will be given an opportunity to exercise an option as to whether continue under DGEHS or they want to become member, can be extended the facilities of DGEHS in respect of self and their family members who continue to stay in Delhi. In the event of retirement of such officers, they will be treated as pensioners. It has also been decided that cashless facility to such families may be provided during the period the officer is posted outside
