Bengal govt. grants second language status to Urdu in some areas

kolkata, Feb 6 (ANI): West Bengal government has granted second language status to Urdu in those areas having ten percent Urdu-speaking population in the state.

Bengal's Commerce and Industries Minister Partha Chatterjee informed the mediapersons after a cabinet meeting that it was for the first time in the state that Urdu language has been given official recognition as second language.

Ten areas, including Kolkata, Asansol, Jamuria, Champdani, Goaltore I and II blocks, Islampur, Titagrh and Kamarhati, have been initially identified as having ten percent Urdu-speaking population. (ANI)
