kolkata, Feb 6 (ANI): West Bengal government has granted second language status
to Urdu in those areas having ten percent Urdu-speaking population in the state.
Bengal's Commerce and Industries Minister Partha Chatterjee informed the mediapersons after a cabinet meeting that it was for the first time in the state that Urdu language has been given official recognition as second language.Ten areas, including Kolkata, Asansol, Jamuria, Champdani, Goaltore I and II blocks, Islampur, Titagrh and Kamarhati, have been initially identified as having ten percent Urdu-speaking population.
