Rawat to preside over prize distribution function of National Youth Parliament competition

New Delhi, Feb 14 (ANI): Minister of State in the Ministries of Parliamentary Affairs, Agriculture and Food Processing Industries, Harish Rawat, will preside over the prize distribution function of the 24th National Youth Parliament competition 2011 -2012 for Kendriya Vidyalayas to be held at the Mavlankar Auditorium here on Wednesday.

Rawat will distribute the prizes to the prize-winning students for their meritorious performances in the competitions, which were held during the academic year 2011-12.

The students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pangode, Trivandrum, Kerala, which stood first in the competition, will present a short sitting of "Youth Parliament" on this occasion.

From a modest beginning in 1966 when the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs organized the first competition in 16 schools of the Delhi Administration, the 'Youth Parliament' scheme now covers 1200 schools in NCT of Delhi, 1200 Kendriya Vidyalayas, 600 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and 300 universities/colleges all over the country.

The 'Youth Parliament' scheme aims at familiarizing the students with the practices and procedures of parliament, techniques of discussion and debate and development of leadership qualities, spirit of self discipline and tolerance of diverse opinions - the hallmarks of democracy.

The Kendriya Vidyalayas, who would receive the trophies and prizes from Rawat on the occasion include: Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pangode, Trivandrum, Kerala; Kendriya Vidyalaya, Khanpara, Guwahati; Kendriya Vidyalaya, Rangpuri, Delhi; Kendriya Vidyalaya, Eklingarh, Udaipur; Kendriya Vidyalaya, V.F. Jabalpur; Kendriya Vidyalaya, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow; Kendriya Vidyalaya, Bhrhampur Kendriya Vidyalaya, Aizawl and Kendriya Vidyalaya, No.1, AFS, Pune.

Kendriya Vidyalaya, No.1, AFS, Jamnagar; Kendriya Vidyalaya, No.1, Mughalsaria; Kendriya Vidyalaya, Haldwani; Kendriya Vidyalaya, Vayusena Nagar, Nagpur; Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sundargarh; Kendriya Vidyalaya, No. 1, AFA, Dundigal; Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kaltron Nagar, Kerala; Kendriya Vidyalaya, No. 4, Mammon Cantt. and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh are the other Kendriya Vidyalayas to be awarded on the occasion.
