Subramanian Swamy levels corruption charges against Chidambaram's son
Apr 11, 1:56 pm
New Delhi, Apr 11 (ANI): Janata Party President
Subramanian Swamy on Wednesday alleged that Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram's son Karthi Chidambaram is involved in corrupt activities."As far as the question of Chidambaram's son is concerned, he is involved in every possible corrupt activity in which the Minister his father had the portfolio. But Intelligence Bureau is unable to carry out any investigation because Chidambaram didn't allowed them," Swamy said."He is a part of the arms lobby, that's no surprise to me, I have made this remarks and observations in number of public meetings that his son is involved in every corrupt activity. For example, as Minister of Finance in the question of logo change of public sector banks like Canara Bank, they made money on that," Swamy added. "And now, on Home Ministry, Mr Karthi Chidambaram is fully involved in his activity in Dubai and Bahrain," Swamy further said.On spectrum licence issue, Swamy said: "I want to say that Chidambaram is co-accused in the auction of telecom licenses. Trial court agreed on some of my allegations but I have to prove that Chidambaram was involved with A Raja. I will also go to the court""Raja could not be guilty alone, he committed this offence with the active connivance of P Chidambaram,' he added.Charges against Chidambaram have been leveled that he had a role in "deciding" the prices of 2G-spectrum during his earlier tenure as the Finance Minister, thus embroiling him in the telecom scam. His name cropped up in a recent letter of Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee addressed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, in it was stated that established procedures were not followed in auctioning of the 2-G spectrum. The letter stated that sufficient steps were not taken by Chidambaram to prevent the scam from occurring in the first place, considering he could have "stuck to the stand" of auctioning of the precious spectrum instead of giving it at throwaway prices. The telecom scam may have cost 39.57 billion dollars in revenue to the public exchequer as per the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG). Raja was sacked in 2010 and later arrested after being charged with giving away telecom licenses in 2008 at meagre prices. (ANI)
