BJP slams UPA Govt. over anti-farmer's policies

   Apr 12, 8:04 pm

New Delhi, Apr 12 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday hit out at the Congress-led UPA Government following Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar's letter to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh outlining the Centre's anti-farmer's policies'.

BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said the Congress-led UPA Government was indifferent to export policy, procurement policy and inflation.

"Whether it is export policy or whether it is procurement policy or the inflation, they have shown not just indifference but they are confusing decision making. So Sharad Pawar's letter, I think, is very significant," she said.

Pawar has sent a letter to the Prime Minister stating that the policies of the government are hurting the farmers, who are being asked to subsidise the industry.

Sitharaman also condemned Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit for blaming migrants and porous border for the crimes against women in the city.

"There is no business for any body, particularly, those who are occupying positions of power such as chief minister of a state to comment on the people, who come from other states to live here," said Sitharaman.

"I think this really distorts the picture of a cosmopolitan Delhi and gives a very elitist view to the whole matter, which is condemnable," she added.

Dikshit had earlier in the day said that she feels ashamed of increasing cases of rape in the national capital. She blamed violent crimes against women on increasing migration to the city. (ANI)
