Maoist couple arrested in Jharkhand

   Jun 1, 9:21 pm

Hazaribagh (Jharkhand), June 1 (ANI): A Maoist couple, who had been eluding police for past many months has been arrested here on Friday.

The duo has been identified as Naveen Manjhi, zonal head of a Maoist group and Chameli, commander of the women's wing.

Huge amount of money and Maoist literature were seized from their possession.

Interacting with mediapersons, District Superintendent of Police (DSP), Pankaj Kamboj informed that the couple tried to hoodwink the police on being arrested, however, they were eventually verified.

" Their verification started after the police teams returned from their daily patrolling. He had initially told his name as Amrit Hansda and the girl had told her name as Hansda, which was not in our records. When we verified them from photographs and police informers, we came to know that he is Naveen Manjhi and he also admitted to the fact. The girl is Manisha alias Chameli who is the commander of the woman's wing," Kamboj said.

Manjhi was wanted in around 105 criminal cases across Jharkhand and investigations are on to ascertain details of his activities.

"He was involved in around 105 cases in Jharkhand and we are collecting more details about him. We have taken him on remand and will carry on with our investigation," added Kamboj.

The arrested Maoist, Manjhi, said the committee with which he was associated was weakening due to the rude behaviour of certain senior Maoists.

"The committee is not strong and there is shortage of cadres. The reason behind the weakening of committee is that the senior members do not behave nicely with the juniors," Manjhi disclosed. (ANI)
