Kejriwal slams PM, asks Govt. to focus on battling corruption

New Delhi, June 4 (ANI): With Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh asking his party cadres to effectively tackle the misinformation and falsehood being spread by 'disparate' and 'desperate' elements, Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal on Monday once again hit out at the former, saying it would have been significant if the ruling UPA Government would have thought fighting corruption.

"I think it would have been better had they thought that fighting against corruption is a big challenge. This would have been significant, as the people of the country would have gained from it. Whatever allegations we have levelled against them are based on the Supreme Court orders and the CAG report," said Kejriwal.

"These are not baseless allegations. So, there should be a fair probe into all these. This is what we are demanding," he added.

Kejriwal further alleged that the corrupt ministers are a hindrance in the passing of an effective Lokpal Bill.

"And the Ministers against whom the charges have been levelled, they are the ones who do want a strong Lokpal to be formed. The country needs a Lokpal Bill for a fair probe," he said.

The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, earlier today rejected the charges of Team Anna that the government had "swindled unbelievable amounts" of money and hit out at yoga guru Baba Ramdev for claiming that "astronomical" sums of black money can be brought back from other countries in one stroke.

Addressing the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting here, Dr. Singh said : "The truth is that our government is fully committed to tackle the menace of corruption in public life and bring about transparency and accountability in the work of government authorities. And we have proved this by taking action on multiple fronts."

"The legislative and administrative action we have taken in this area speaks for itself," he added.

Commenting on the remarks made by Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Kejriwal said the allegations that have been levelled against the ministers are based on the Supreme Court orders and the CAG report.

"I have heard that she has said all the allegations are baseless. We will send her all the files tomorrow. She should herself look into it. If the CAG's report is also baseless, then nothing will be left in this country," he said.

Gandhi, who is also the UPA chairperson, had launched a scathing attack on the opposition and civil society activists, stating that they were levelling baseless allegations against the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and termed it as a 'conspiracy' to malign their image. (ANI)
