Jayalalithaa disappointed with annual economic package for Tamil Nadu

   Jun 4, 9:16 pm

New Delhi, June 4 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Monday expressed her disappointment with the Central Government's annual economic package for her state.

Jayalalithaa said that the Centre had extended a help of just 3000 crore rupees in the total plan of 28,000 crore rupees for 2012-13.

The Tamil Nadu Government today presented a Rs 28,000 crore Annual Plan 2012-13 with the Planning Commission, an increase of 19 percent over the outlay of Rs. 23,535 crore in 2011-12.

"The annual plan outlay for Tamil Nadu for 2012-13 has been fixed at 28000 crore (280 billion) rupees. This is a nineteen percent increase over last years plan outlay but here out of these 28000 crore rupees only 3000 crore (30 billion) rupees is from the centre, the rest of it is Tamil Nadu's own money," said Jayalalithaa.

Expressing her unhappiness over the Central Government's assistance, Jayalalithaa said that the Centre sidelined all her demands for special package for her province.

"We have asked for special assistance, additional assistance under various heads but that was not forthcoming so what this entire exercise amounts to is that we have come all the way to Delhi to have discussions and meetings with the union planning commission so that they can tell us how to spend our own money," she said.

Jayalalithaa, who held parleys with Planning Commission Deputy Chairperson Montek Singh Ahluwalia here earlier in the day, sought a higher fund allocation for Tamil Nadu than was granted to the province last year. (ANI)
