CRPF set up camps in Maoist affected villages of Jharkhand

   Jun 5, 1:44 pm

Sarju (Jharkhand), June 5 (ANI): The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has set up camps in Maoist infested villages of Jharkhand to combat left wing extremism and bridge the gap between villagers and security personnel.

For the past few years, the rebels have stepped up their efforts against the government and locals through killings and abductions.

The CRPF and Jharkhand Police have launched joint operations in Sarju village of Jharkhand's Latehar District to flush out rebels operating in the area.

Inspector General of Police, Palamu Range, Deepak Verma, said the presence of the security in the village would increase employment opportunities for locals.

"With the arrival of the force in Sarju, the locals are quite happy and feel safe now. We can now see a ray of hope for development in the region. Along with this, with the housing of personnel in such large numbers, locals are getting new opportunities of earning their living. Villagers are being employed by the force for doing small works. In the coming days, this area would be free of extremists," claimed Verma.

Villagers expressed happiness over the presence of paramilitary camps and said the situation would improve with the presence of security forces in the area.

"Earlier the situation was worse, as Maoists used to stay in the area, but now with the arrival of the force in the area, the situation has improved. We are benefiting as security personnel are stationed over here," said Abdul Razaq, a villager.

Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh had visited the village on April 30 during an inspection and launched a plan worth Rupees 450 crore for the all round development of this backward area. (ANI)
