Digvijay Singh slams Team Anna for suspecting PM's role in coal block allocation

   Jun 5, 9:29 pm

New Delhi, June 5 (ANI): Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh on Tuesday hit out at Team Anna for suspecting the role of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in coal block allocation.

He said that one cannot blindly indict the Prime Minister on the basis of report by the Comptroller Auditor General of India (CAG).

"You must understand the Constitutional status and position of CAG. CAG is an audit party. It is not an investigative wing. So, therefore number one - CAG is yet to give a final report on coal blocks. CAG has not indicted anyone, but honourable Prime Minister had forwarded this to the CVC (Central Vigilance Commission) and in turn, the CVC has handed it over to CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) and the CBI shall investigate," said Singh.

"So, therefore it is honourable Prime Minister himself, who on his own initiated the action and now this matter is with CBI," he added.

Veteran social activist Anna Hazare had earlier on Monday said he suspected whether the Prime Minister is clean after going through the CAG report on coal allocation and the file prepared by his team members.

"I have seen the papers, I have suspicion. I had always thought that he was a clean Prime Minister, but after reading the files I doubt there is something wrong," he told media here.

Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal had also said on Monday that the allegations that have been levelled against the ministers are based on the Supreme Court orders and the CAG report.

"I have heard that she has said all the allegations are baseless. We will send her all the files tomorrow. She should herself look into it. If the CAG's report is also baseless, then nothing will be left in this country," he said, when asked to comment on Sonia Gandhi's remarks. (ANI)
