Hyderabad, June 15 (ANI): YSR Congress Party chief Jagan Mohan Reddy's sister Sharmila on Friday expressed her delight over the stupendous performance of the party in the Andhra Pradesh by-polls, saying the verdict reflects that the people do not appreciate vindictive politics.

Asserting that YSR Congress Party is the future of Andhra Pradesh, Sharmila said: "We are definitely happy with the results. This is the verdict of the people and it is their way of saying that they do not appreciate vindictive politics. It is the people's way of saying that they think Jagan Mohan Reddy is innocent, that he is being instigated, and it is the people's way of saying that they trust in the leadership of Jagan Mohan Reddy."

"He is doing good. He is very courageous. He is very hopeful. He is an optimist," she added, when asked to comment on her meeting with brother Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Sharmila met Jagan inside the Chanchalguda jail following the party's superb victor in the by-elections. Jagan is currently in jail in connection with a disproportionate assets case.

YSR Congress Party has won 13 of the 18 seats, and is leading in another two seats as per the latest reports.

The 18 assembly constituencies in Andhra Pradesh include Tirupati, Allagadda, Rajampet, Rayachoti, Parkal, Ongole, Narsamapeta, Payakaraopet, Anantapur Urban, Yemmiganur, Rayadurg, Kodur, Udayagiri, Narasapuram, Prathipadu, Ramachandrapuram, Macherla and Polavaram.

The bye-elections were necessitated following the resignation of a Congress MP and disqualification of 17 state legislators.

Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy resigned from the Congress Party in 2010 after a very ugly and public spat. He later went on to form his own political party. (ANI)
