Andhra Pradesh bye polls: YSR Congress bags 15 Assembly seats, 1 Lok Sabha seat

Hyderabad, June 15 (ANI): The Y S R Congress party bagged the Nellore Lok Sabha Constituency and 15 of the 18 Assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh on Friday, while Congress won two assembly Constituencies in the bye-polls.

YSR Congress party candidate Rajamohan Reddy retained the seat by over 291000 votes, establishing a majority over his nearest rival T Subbarami Reddy. Rajamohan Reddy, who was elected on the Congress ticket last time, had resigned in support of Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.

Among the assembly constituencies won were Narsannapet, Payakaraopet, Polavaram, Prathipadu, Macherla, Ongole, Udayagiri, Rajampet, Kodur, Rayachoty, Allagadda, Yemmiganur, Rayadurg, Ananthapur, and Tirupati.

The Congress won Ramachandrapuram and Narsapuram assembly seats. The Telugu Rashtriya Samiti emerged victorious in Parkal, the only constituency where by poll was held in Telangana region, by a majority of over 17900 votes.

State Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal said the counting of votes was done peacefully. (ANI)
