Five Indian paramilitary troopers wounded in grenade attack in Sopore

   Jun 17, 4:55 pm

Srinagar, June 17 (Xinhua-ANI): At least five Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were wounded, two of them critically, in a grenade attack on Sunday in Sopore in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district, around 50 km northwest of Srinagar.

" The wounded were immediately hospitalized for medical treatment. Of them the two critically wounded were shifted to Srinagar hospital for specialized treatment," said Sudhir Kumar, spokesman of the CRPF in Srinagar.

So far, no militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The contingents of police and CRPF cordoned the area and launched search operations to nab the suspected militants.

Sopore town is considered a hotbed of militancy in Indian- controlled Kashmir.

Militants usually target their attacks on Indian troops and police, and engage them in gunfights across the region.

Last month at least seven CRPF troopers were wounded in a militant attack in Srinagar city.

A guerrilla war is also going on between militants and the Indian troops stationed in the region since 1989. (Xinhua-ANI)
