BJP leaders, activists court arrest over UPA's inflationary policies (Update)

New Delhi/Ahmedabad/Srinagar, June 22 (ANI): Scores of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) party workers, led by their leaders, courted arrest across the country on Friday in protest against the rising prices of essential commodities.

BJP's National Vice President, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, said that this nationwide protest was being coordinated in 528 districts across the country.

"In protest of the back breaking inflation and the sky rocketing prices of petrol and the partnership of the Central Government with the industrial mafia this 'court arrest' campaign is going on. Millions of people are participating in large numbers in 528 districts and over 13,000 places are participating in this campaign. The common man is filled with anger towards the policy paralysis of this so-called economists-ruled government," Naqvi told the media in New Delhi.

"The Central Government is tagging along with the industrial mafia and putting the pressure on the common man. This campaign is being organized to issue a warning and to wake this government from this policy paralysis," he added.

The BJP supporters and legislators in Gujarat sent out a message to the Central Government to learn lesson in development from the Narendra Modi-ruled state government.

"The Bharatiya Janata Party has organized this protest on all the 182 assembly seats in Gujarat. We are sending a message from Gujarat to New Delhi to learn from the government of Gujarat on how to run the country, said BJP state legislator Geeta Patel.

"We also want to convey the message that this corrupt Central Government should be removed from power. And after the 2014 general elections the Bharatiya Janata Party would come into power and end this rule of this corrupt government," she added.

The BJP protestors in Jammu and Kashmir complained of lack of development in the state.

"If you look at development, there is none. The state government has been doing nothing, they just like to comment, show it on paper and talk to the media. But if you look at those states where the Bharatiya Janata Party is in power, they are seeing development," said Sheila Handoo, an executive member for BJP.

"The only development in Jammu and Kashmir was witnessed when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was ruling the Central Government, the process of road widening was done when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister," she added. (ANI)
