Locals participate in anti-drugs marathon in Shimla

Shimla, June 24 (ANI): Scores of locals participated in an anti-drugs awareness marathon here on Sunday.

The marathon was organised by the state police chief to create awareness among the youth to shun the use of tobacco and drugs.

Number of participants from police, army, paramilitary and locals along with people from neighboring states of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi participated in the run.

"Through this marathon, we want to create awareness against the use of tobacco and other harmful drugs taken by the young people, and also to make the society drugs free. We organise this marathon every year," said organiser and Director General of Himachal Pradesh police, D.S Manhas.

School children also participated in the marathon to raise voice against the ill effects of drug use.

The marathon was divided in three events- 21.5-kilometre half marathon, 10-kilometre mini-marathon and 3-kilometre dream run.

Through the marathon the organisers also wanted to create awareness about clean and green environment.

Manhas urged people to realize the importance of clean surrounding and indulge in planting trees to make the city pollution free.

"When people will run in a marathon then they would observe the trees and greenery in the valley. This would result in awareness for the environment. When people will see the jungles while participating in the marathon they will realize the importance of clean environment and take steps in reducing pollution and saving trees for a better environment," Manhas said.
