PM announces Rs. 500 cr relief package for Assam

Guwahati, July 2 (ANI): The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, on Monday announced a Rs. 500-crore relief package for flood- hit Assam, and expressed satisfaction over the ongoing rescue and relief operations.He, along with Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, assessed the flood situation in the state even as the death toll touched 79.Addressing a press conference here, Dr, Singh said a large number of mobile health centers have been set up in the region to assist the flood-affected.Dr. Singh had already announced an ex-gratia of Rs. one lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund to the kin of each of those killed in the floods and directed the Defence Ministry to provide army assistance in rescue and relief operations.He had, earlier, assured the Assam Government of all help to deal with the flood situation. He spoke to Defence Minister AK Antony urging full army assistance for the rescue and relief operations in the affected areas. (ANI)
Sad, anxious about disruptions to Parliament and Legislatures, says Mukherjee
