Indo-Bangla Foreign Secretary level talks in New Delhi today

New Delhi, July 24 (ANI): India and Bangladesh will hold the Foreign Office Consultations (FOCs) here today.

Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai will lead the Indian delegation while the Bangladesh delegation will be led by his counterpart Mohamed Mijarul Quayes.

The two sides will hold comprehensive discussions on the entire gamut of bilateral relations, including cooperation in political and security related matters, border management, counter-terrorism, trade and investment, water resources, power cooperation, including in renewable energy, connectivity, development cooperation and increasing people-to-people ties.

Bangladesh is an important neighbour of India and its largest trading partner within the SAARC region.

The first meeting of the India-Bangladesh Joint Consultative Commission (JCC) was held in New Delhi in May 2012 at the level of External Affairs Minister/Foreign Minister where it was agreed that the bilateral engagement would be further intensified by holding FOCs annually.

The last Foreign Office Consultations was held in June 2011 in Dhaka.

The consultations provide an opportunity to review progress in bilateral relations and further strengthen cooperation (ANI)
