Maharashtra Congress MLAs demand change in CM Chavan's modus operandi

   Jul 24, 3:22 pm

Mumbai, July 24 (ANI): In a startling repeat of the manoeuvres made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs in Karnataka to unseat the government of former chief minister Sadanand Gowda, over 40 Maharashtra Congress legislators raised a similar demand against Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Tuesday, saying he needed to go if he couldn't alter his way of functioning.

The MLAs, reportedly miffed with Chavan's style of functioning, wrote to state party president Manickrao Thackeray, saying the Chavan was virtually unapproachable.

Chavan, who replaced Ashok Chavan as chief minister in November 2010 after the latter's name cropped up as one of the accused in Adarsh Housing Society scam, is largely believed to be an import from the Centre, and not a local man.

The Congress -NCP coalition in the state has hit rock bottom too, with the Sharad Pawar-led NCP reportedly wanting Chavan out of the chief minister's chair.

Ashok Chavan's supporters reportedly believe he has not been given adequate support by the party.

Earlier this month, 12 Congress MLAs who supported Ashok Chavan had walked out of a Congress Legislative Party meeting here, dissatisfied with the way the former CM was being treated in the Adarsh scam investigation.(ANI)
