Dibrugarh (Assam), July 24 (ANI): Seventeen-year old Pinky Karmakar comes across as an average eleventh grade teenager, but the girl from the Borborooah Tea Estate here has achieved something distinctly stupendous that places her heads and shoulders above her colleagues.

Karmakar was a torchbearer for India at the Olympic baton relay at Nottinghamshire on June 28, an event that saw participation from 20 other nations.

Intereacting with mediapersons, Karmakar said she is honoured to represent India at 2012 Olympics .

"I feel great to have represented India at such a big event. I never thought of being a torchbearer and come so far. I feel lucky and greatly honoured," she said.

Pinky has been associated with the United National Children's Fund and implementing their sports program in her village school since 2009.

Every evening she trains 40 women, including her mother, in different sports. Pinky also helps in spreading awareness on issues like child marriage, adult literacy and alcoholism.

Talking about her association with UNICEF, she said, "I am grateful to UNICEF. They trained me in different activities and gave a job. Their training has helped me become confident in public speaking and present myself to people."

Pinki is happy to run the training program and wants to take it up as her profession. (ANI)
