Left can play role in uniting all democratic forces: D Raja
Aug 5, 4:43 pm
New Delhi, Aug. 5 (ANI): Reacting to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K Advani's blog, wherein he said that a "non-Congress, non-BJP Prime Minister heading a government was feasible, Communist Party of India (CPI) leader D Raja on Sunday said the Left can play a role in uniting all democratic forces. "At this point of time, these are all speculations. These are all concerns for all political parties. The principal opposition party, the BJP, continues to be disarray, directionless, and without any focus. In such a situation, what will emerge in the 2014 election, in the coming days what will be changed, one has to wait and see. But it is becoming increasingly clear that a Congress-led UPA II will not be able to come back to power," Raja said. "Similarly, the BJP or BJP-led NDA will not be able to win elections and come to power. Then, it is possible that regional parties can retain their support base. They can perform well in the forthcoming elections," he added. Raja said: "The Left will be able to renovate itself. Left can play a role in uniting all the democratic forces." "They can play a role in uniting the regional parties, so that a new combine may emerge as a kind of viable and acceptable option and change the entire situation by forming the government," he added. In his blog on Sunday, Advani said that a "non-Congress, non-BJP Prime Minister heading a government supported by one of the two principal parties" is feasible. "This has happened in the past also. But, as the Prime Ministership of Chaudhry Charan Singh, Chandrashekharji, Deve Gowda ji and Inder Kumar Gujral ji, as also of Vishwanath Pratap Singh ji have shown, such governments have never lasted long," Advani said. He wrote: "Soothsayers are not wanting who predict that it may be the first time when the Congress Party's score sinks to just two digits, that is, less than one hundred!" "The party's miserable performance in Rae Bareilly, Amethi etc. which have long been regarded as pocket-boroughs of the first family, in the U.P. Assembly polls held recently and its dismal record in the Corporation elections of Uttar Pradesh where as against the BJP's score of ten out of twelve Corporations, the Congress drew a big blank are clear indices of the party's collapsing fortunes," he added. He went on to add that the BJP continued to be a beneficiary of the "fast eroding reputation" of the Congress. (ANI)
