BJP to target Karti Chidambaram during Monsoon Session
Aug 7, 2:15 pm
New Delhi, Aug 7 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today disclosed that it would take up the matter surrounding the reported involvement of Finance Minister P. Chidambaram's son Karti Chidambaram in the 2G spetrum scam during the Monsoon Session of Parliament beginning tomorrow.BJP leader Balbir Punj said the Finance Minister was supposed to make a statement on the allegation. But Pranab Mukherjee has now become the President of India. "And Mr. Chidambaram, who was sort of an accused in this case, he himself becomes the Finance Minister. So, we will have to deal with this tricky situation," he said.Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy had earlier in April alleged that P. Chidambaram's son, Karti Chidambaram, was a direct beneficiary of the 2G scam.Swamy then claimed that Karti Chidambaram's company Advantage Strategic Consulting had five per cent stake in Aircel Televentures.Chidambaram had, however, later clarified all the doubts over the Aircel-Maxis deal issue, saying that neither he nor any members of his family have owned any share in any telecom company.Punj said this party would also raise the issue surrounding the allocation of coal blocks, when Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh was holding the additional charge of the Coal Ministry. "There is a massive fraud in the field of coal. When the Prime Minister himself was the Coal Minister, they were given on considerations. We believe that the CAG has already presented a report to the government, but the government hasn't still put it on the table of the House," he said.Dr Singh was holding additional charge of the coal ministry between 2006 and 2009, when more than 60 coal blocks were allocated to private companies.Punj further said that the
BJP would also bring forward several other contentious issues during the Monsoon Session
, which includes the Lokpal Bill, Assam violence, floods and drought situation in several parts of the country and inflation."So, all these issues and many more, we want to take in the current session of Parliament and engage the government in a serious discussion," he added. (ANI)
