Maoists issue warnings through posters in Jharkhand

   Aug 7, 7:58 pm

Ranchi, Aug.7 (ANI): Maoists have pasted posters threatening local residents in the rebel-infested areas of Jharkhand.

The poster warnings said that people from outside the state should not be allowed to take up jobs in Ranchi. The warnings also said that if women were seen wearing jeans or trousers, their families would be attacked.

The poster said that if the residents did not comply with their demands, they would face dire consequences.

Deepak Kumar, a local resident, said that college students could be behind these mischevious warnings.

A traffic police officer said that the residents are scared of being attacked.

"When we came here, there was a crowd reading the poster, and there is fear among the locals," he said.

Police are investigating the matter.

In the last few years, the Maoists have stepped up their efforts against the government and local residents. Some reports have revealed that the Maoists are facing an acute shortage of personnel in both central and eastern India in the wake of security forces stepping up their operations.

The guerrilla war, waged mostly from the forests of central and eastern India, is being seen as a major internal security challenge, say analysts.

Hundreds of people have been killed and injured in Maoist violence, as well as falling victims to counter insurgency operations. (ANI)
