Aug 10, 7:09 pm
Srinagar, Aug.10 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Governor N.N. Vohra and the state's Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah have made a strong pitch for unbiased reporting by the media, while urging the latter not to fall victim to the menace of paid news.Speaking recently at the launch of the Kashmir Tribune, both Vohra and Abdullah said that there was a love-hate relationship between politicians and the media.Abdullah went a step further in saying that that the media and politicians cannot live in harmony, because of if they were; they were not doing respective jobs.Governor Vohra, who was the chief guest, underscored the need for fair and unbiased reporting. "The role of media impacts governance, society and the course of events. Views and opinions on influencing the present and shaping the future are perhaps equally if not more important than the past," he said. The editor-in-chief of The Tribune, Raj Chengappa, said the launch of Kashmir Tribune marked a historic step forward in the coverage of the country's frontier state."The people of Kashmir were yearning for peace that has seen tourists flock back to the state. It is now obvious that the people in the state want to move forward rather than look backward and seek a sustainable peace. Everywhere the sign of the great resurgence is evident," said Chengappa.
