Hamid Ansari takes oath as Vice-President(Update: Hamid)

New Delhi, Aug 11 (ANI): Mohammed Hamid Ansari on Saturday became the 14th Vice President of India.

This is his second consecutive term as the Vice-President, only the second to do so after Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

In an almost one-sided contest Ansari got 490 votes out of the 788 valid votes cast in the elections.

His opponent, NDA backed candidate Jaswant Singh, got only 238 votes.

He got more votes than he had secured in the 2007 election. He had the backing by the Congress and its allies in the UPA, including the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), DMK and the National Conference. (ANI)
