Apple plans to axe 'failed' social network Ping

   Jun 14, 10:36 am

Sydney, June 14 (ANI): Tech giant Apple has planned to drop its social media network for iTunes, Ping, in the near future, a report has said.

Sources familiar with the matter revealed that Apple would be leaving the social media realm and removing Ping in its next major release of iTunes.

The decision does not come as a big surprise, as chief executive Tim Cook said last month that he wasn't sure whether or not Apple would kill the social service that launched in 2010.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, he indirectly admitted that the service wasn't working.

"We tried Ping, and I think the customer voted and said, 'This isn't something that I want to put a lot of energy into,'" he said, according to All Things D.

At the same time, Cook emphasised that it was important for Apple to be social.

"Things like this make our devices even more useful to people," Cook said. (ANI)
