Google denies preventing US probe into claims of 'promoting own products in searches'

   Jun 23, 2:14 pm

London, June 23 (ANI): Google has denied claim that it is preventing a US investigation into whether it is abusing its dominance in the Internet search market to promote its own products.

It comes after Texan attorney general Greg Abbott accused Google of improperly refusing to hand over evidence he had requested, totalling over 14,500 documents.

Google, however, claims that it had 'shared hundreds of thousands of documents' with Abbott.

According to The BBC, Abbott is asking a judge to order Google to release the relevant files.

The dispute over the missing documents centres on whether they are communications between Google employees and the company's lawyers.

According to the report, the dispute in Texas comes two months after US watchdog, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), fined Google 25,000 dollars after it ruled that the company had held back an investigation into Google's Street View mapping feature.

Also, the European Commission in May said that Google had to take action to allay concerns that it is abusing its dominant position. (ANI)
