Uttar Pradesh facing acute grain storage space due to poor infrastructure
Jun 26, 12:54 pm
Faizabad (Uttar Pradesh), June 26 (ANI): More than 100 trucks with recently harvested wheat remained parked outside a Food Corporation of India (FCI) godown in Faizabad district of India's northern
Uttar Pradesh state for more than 10 days due to poor infrastructure with lack of storage space. The FCI has been facing severe storage shortage owing to the increasing procurement of wheat and the temporary storage facilities have also fallen short of space leaving the truck drivers helpless.Truck drivers said they were waiting to unload the grain, but were yet to get the permission to do so."Around 106-107 trucks are parked here for the last 10 days. How are we going to work like this? The authorities tell us that they have no space left. Earlier, a platform was created outside the godown and the grains were stored there. But this season, they have no space left," said a truck driver, Narendra Tiwari. Wheat procurement has reached the highest level in the state, which is more than what was expected, leading to a shortage of space. The wheat has been brought in from Rudauli, Gosaiganj, Amaniganj and Milkipur areas of the state. The drivers complained that the officials had informed them about not receiving orders from the markets."The officials are telling that they are not receiving orders from the market, so they cannot unload our trucks."In wake of the crisis, the state government has decided to end wheat procurement by the end of this month.
