Murdoch's 'US better than UK for investment' quip sparks outrage in Britain

   Jun 30, 1:26 pm

London, June 30 (ANI): News Corporation chief Rupert Murdoch has come under fire for suggesting that he would focus his media empire on the US because 'the English' had made him unwilling to invest any further in the UK .

Murdoch's anti-English outburst came during an interview with Fox News after New Corp confirmed that its newspaper arm would be split from the rest of the business.

According to The Daily Express, critics slammed his "empty rhetoric" and said the media tycoon 'had been happy to base himself in Britain for years to build his worldwide empire.'

"If he dislikes Britain it's because he has been found out in Britain," Brian Cathcart, professor of journalism at Kingston University said.

"The culture which he engendered and sustained at the News of the World has been exposed. If he is wary of Britain, it's because of that," he added.

Murdoch had said that he would prefer to invest News Corp's billions of dollars of cash in America than Britain.

He also said he would not make a new 8 billion pounds bid for control of British broadcaster BskyB. (ANI)
