Oomen Chandy calls for investments in Kerala

   Jul 21, 4:04 pm

Bengaluru, July 21 (ANI): Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Friday stressed on the need to increase investment in infrastructure projects in the state and change the perception that the southern state was investment repellent.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Bengaluru leg of 'Emerging Kerala' seminar, Chandy believed the programme - already held in Delhi and Mumbai - would attract investors in Kerala.

"Kerala has lot of opportunities, but we are not in a position to utilize those opportunities. So we want to inform our chances, our opportunities to others. There is a feeling that Kerala is against investment, it is not welcoming industries. We want to change that," Chandy said.

He added that the communist ideologies that have dominated the state before the current Congress government assumed office, had led to Kerala losing some lucrative deals.

"We lost a lot of chances in the past. We are very much ahead in health and education but infrastructure we are lacking very badly. Slogans and agitations will not create results," Chandy said.

Kerala plans to double its power generation capacity by commissioning more power projects.

It has already identified more than 1,600 hectares of land for setting up industries. (ANI)
