HR activists alarmed over treatment of Hindus in Pakistan

Islamabad, Apr 18 (ANI): Human rights activists in Pakistan have expressed concerns over the nation being victim to communal, sectarian and ethnic hatred and urged the parliament to make the Quaid-e-Azam's August 11, 1947 speech an integral part of the Constitution.

Social activists Marvi Sirmed, Riaz Chandio, Naseer Memon and others expressed concern over the treatment of Hindus in the country, which might be threatened by miscreants and extremists.

They appealed to the media to highlight the inside stories about the alleged abduction of Hindu girls and claimed the Hindu community was being conspired to be expelled from the country.

"The government should take serious notice of the ongoing issue of abduction and later conversion to Islam of Hindu girls of Sindh. At least 51 Hindu girls have so far been forcibly converted to Islam in southern Sindh, where most of Pakistan's minority Hindu population lives, during the last four months," the Daily Times quoted the activists, as saying.

The activists also asked the government to expel Mian Mithu, a parliament member involved in a forced conversion case, from the party and disqualify him from parliament membership and demanded that he should be arrested and tried under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

They added that an investigation also be conducted against Mian Mithu 's sons, Mian Aslam and Main Rafique.

Muslims scholars, Sufis and civil society representatives, who were also present at the press conference, protested against the issues of forced conversions by Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) and human trafficking. (ANI)
